Mindwize and responsible AI to empower fundraising
At Mindwize, everything we do is in support of charities. We operate in a market driven by values, ethics and trust. This trust from our clients and donors is absolutely essential. That is why we employ clear guidelines for the use of generative AI. This protocol applies to all activities we conduct on behalf of our clients.
The purpose of this protocol is to:
Use AI in a responsible and ethical manner. The goal should always be to use AI responsibly to create better campaigns that generate more impact. This is done with respect for the recipients of the aid and for donors’ trust.
Ethics, bias and inclusion
Mindwize uses AI in a manner that befits our mission and values. When we utilise AI, we always employ the ‘knowledgeable person – AI – knowledgeable person’ principle.
Therefore:
- We avoid stereotyping and bias in text and images.
- We do not use any AI output that may be discriminatory or can damage the image of Mindwize’s clients.
- We safeguard the privacy of our clients and their donors in accordance with the GDPR guidelines and the EU AI Act.
- We do not use any AI-generated texts that have not been reviewed by a professional using the ‘human-machine-human’ principle.
Human – machine – human
AI is used to support – not replace – human judgement. The final responsibility for all output always rests with Mindwize.
This means:
- Only sufficiently knowledgeable employees may formulate AI prompts.
- All AI output is reviewed to assess its accuracy, quality, relevance and usability.
Privacy and security
Personal data
Mindwize only uses AI tools on a secure and protected platform.
We safeguard privacy in accordance with the GDPR.
Use of images
Mindwize uses:
- No AI-generated faces of people living in poverty, crisis or trauma.
- No AI-generated images that resemble real places, regions, ethnic groups, racial groups or events.
- No AI-generated images of a specific country or a specific crisis without a factual basis or direct association (e.g. using a generic image of ‘a child from a developing country’ to represent scenes from a specific developing country or a specific community).
- Abstract illustrations, icons, diagrams and data visualisations that are not intended to represent real people or events.
If AI-generated images are used, this will be clearly mentioned in the campaign.
